Following the launch of the Qin PLUS Glory Edition and Destroyer 05 Glory Edition models that brought plug-in hybrid models into the “7-series” era, BYD has made another big move.

On February 28th, BYD officially launched the Han and Tang Glory Edition models, with an official starting price of 169,800 yuan. Specifically, there are 4 models of the Han EV Glory Edition, with prices ranging from 179,800 yuan to 249,800 yuan; 5 models of the Han DM-i Glory Edition, with prices ranging from 169,800 yuan to 225,800 yuan; 1 model of the 2024 Han DM-p War God Edition, priced at 259,800 yuan; and 4 models of the Tang DM-i Glory Edition, with prices ranging from 179,800 yuan to 219,800 yuan.

Full-scale Attack on the Mid-to-High-End Market

The mid-to-high-end market is the “must-win” market for the Chinese auto market, and it is also the key segment market monopolized by Japanese and German joint venture brands. Since the launch of the Han EV in 2020, BYD has been continuously attacking the market dominance of joint venture brands in the mid-to-high-end auto market with the Han and Tang models, achieving a combined monthly sales volume of over 30,000 units and a cumulative sales volume of over 1 million units.

This time, in addition to the standard configuration of over 100 core features for the whole series, the Han and Tang Glory Edition models have been upgraded in terms of intelligent driving and intelligent cockpit.

It is reported that in terms of intelligent driving, the Han EV Glory Edition launches the “Eye of the Sky” intelligent driving model, becoming the first BYD model to be equipped with the “Eye of the Sky” DiPilot 100 platform. Based on the L2+ level intelligent driving assistance function, the Han EV Glory Edition can be further upgraded to support NOA high-speed and urban expressway navigation and AVP valet parking functions.

In terms of intelligent cockpit, the Han and Tang Glory Edition models have been fully upgraded to the intelligent cockpit high-end version-DiLink 100, based on the D 100 (6nm) chip, and have worked with international chip giants to deeply customize a 5G-enabled car-grade cockpit platform. The pricing of the Han and Tang Glory Edition models also continues BYD’s “electricity is cheaper than oil” strategy, aiming to accelerate the oil-to-electricity transition process in the mainstream mid-to-high-end market.

As the first domestic automaker to stop production of fuel vehicles, BYD has launched a “big battle” against joint venture fuel vehicles and put forward the new slogan of “electricity is cheaper than oil”.

Recently, BYD has successively released several “Glory Edition” models, including the Qin PLUS Glory Edition and Destroyer 05 Glory Edition with starting prices of 79,800 yuan, and the Dolphin Glory Edition with a starting price of 99,800 yuan.

“On the surface, it is a price war of products, but in fact, it is a system war of the whole industrial chain.” A person close to BYD told reporters that BYD’s move aims to give play to its advantages in vertical integration of the whole industrial chain and scale effect, and to seize the market share of traditional fuel vehicles and activate the incremental market of new energy vehicles.

It is reported that in the future, BYD hopes to promote the “electricity is cheaper than oil” automobile industry change, and let new energy technology bring more comfortable and convenient travel experience to more Chinese families.
